Game Styles

picture-1Battalion: Arena features new units, new maps, totally recoded AI, new graphics, new interface, map editor and on and on and on. But you already know all that. What you might not have known is that you’ll be able to create maps to play two different styles of Battalion, depending on what you’re in the mood for.

Blitz

Blitz mode is the Warmachine method of play. This is our new mode of play designed, as its name would suggest, for fast and furious gameplay. Gone are the buildings are factories and other bits of Battalion play that turned a player match into a lengthy affair. If you want to sit down and throw down with a quick match, Blitz is for you.

Use your Warmachines to send units into the field collect finite resources from ore deposits that may or may not be scattered around the level and then get to it. The limited resources in this mode ensures that at a certain point, it’ll just be you versus them, not you versus the amount of money they take in each round.

Classic

But you know, we still like the old school gameplay. There’s something to be said for two strategic titans duking it out for as long as they can stand. In Classic Maps you’ll have all the old buildings and units and all the Battalion action you’ve grown accustomed to. You won’t, however, have the Warmachine. All other new units are in play, however.

Before you get concerned, though, Classic mode uses all the new interface and AI action that Blitz does. The only difference is no Warmachine. In this mode, your resources are infinite… as long as you control cities. This means that battles are a true matter of strategy and positioning, but they can be lengthy. So if you and a friend have some time to kill to really see who’s boss… then Classic is for you.

And I know you’re curious about a specific deadline, but we can’t give you that. I can, however, give you hints. Hints like: before September. Each week we’ll get closer to completion, closer to release… and you’ll get another hint from me.

This Is Just A Flash Version Of Advanced Wars

  10. Battalion began as a flash homage to Advanced Wars, but has since deviated pretty heavily from the core of AW. At this point, it’s as much like AW as AW is like X-Com or any other turn-based strategy game.
