Game Scripting – Part 2

For this post, we’re going to tackle things a bit differently. We’ve got a little technical PDF write-up that we’ve made that breaks down what scripting does, and we’re going to post that for you dudes and dudettes.

We’ll let you download this, read it over and absorb things and then next week I’ll be back to break it down step by step and answer some questions if you post them up here in the comments. There’s a lot going on in here so we’re going to take you through it step by step. For those of you that just can’t wait, though, you can get started playing with scripting now.

  1. Horned_Jolteon

    When I click the link, all that appears is dots and my computer freezes up! It says “Unable to find or create the font ‘BAAAAA+ArialBoldMT’. Some characters may not display or print correctly.” I have an image, but I don’t know how to show it. What am I supposed to do?


  2. Try doing a right-click on the link and then choose “Save Link Target As”. It sounds like your web browser is trying to open the PDF directly, but cannot read it.

    If you download it to your desktop, and then try opening it with Adobe Reader, you should be fine.


  3. Many responses and conditions do not work properly or at all. Hopefully you will update this. Some examples include (that I have tried) cannot disable leviathan pickups, AI sometimes builds units that are already disabled from script, cannot destroy certain units, cannot scroll, cannot create unit, counter (as well as increment, decrement) does not work, build unit and kill unit conditions do not work and more. These could be because I am not using them correctly but I have gone over them many times and tried to correct the script but still no success. Keep in mind I have only tested these using the test play in map editor and not in a real online game.


  4. False alarm on the destroy or remove unit responses, I just fixed the problem. Those responses do, in fact, work but everything else still has problems for me.
